Our Story
How We Started
Our founder Andre Hursey grew up in the Woodhill Public Housing Apartments in Bloomington, Illinois, where he saw his mother inspire and motivate other children in the complex. She uplifted all and was involved in many community events.
As Andre transitioned into adulthood, he continued to incorporate her mindset into his everyday life as he became involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal, the Western Ave After School Program, the Western Ave Teen Program, and the Linc Center.
Eventually Andre decided that he could best serve the community’s youth by starting his own nonprofit organization and thus the Jule Foundation was born. The idea behind the organization’s name comes from Andre’s middle name Jule, which he inherited from an aunt.
